Pie and Fabric

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Where there are quilters, there is food! And did we have a mid-morning feast on Friday, when Kat showed up for work with this spectacular pie!  It was the most scrumptious apple pie with homemade crust that most of us had ever eaten. With the perfect combo of Granny Smith and a few other kinds of apples, and a thick, flaky double-crust, it was devoured in minutes. What a great start to our Friday.  Don’t you wish you worked here??  Oh, we do have fun!

hediandres

We thought you might enjoy seeing this gorgeous blue and white quilt made by Hedi Andres.  It is twin size, so you are just seeing part of it here. She made it entirely from her scraps and leftovers!  Thank you Hedi.

Podcast!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

We had a surprise visitor in our store a couple of weeks ago…Annie Smith, a quilter, pattern designer, teacher and podcaster from northern California. She drove across the country to visit her son and daughter-in-law, who just moved to Apex, NC, and she visited quilt shops all along the way. Annie interviews people on her podcasts and helps you learn more about what is going on “out there” in the bigger quilting world. She toured our shop and interviewed Celeste while she was here.  Her podcast about our store is now posted on her website at www.simplearts.com. It is Podcast #155.  And of course you can hear all about her whole trip if you go back and listen to previous posts. If you are not familiar with podcasts-they are audio only, and you can listen right from your computer, or you can search for her podcasts in iTunes and download them to your iPod, so that you can listen while you sew! Let us know what you think!

Funky Butterflies

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

This fun and colorful quilt was made by Michele Maynard, who is a long-time quilter, but this is the first quilt that she made on her brand new Bernina.  If you like Michele’s quilt, there is a class coming up next month with Sarah Porreca, and she will teach you how to make these free-form butterflies. It is an easy class!  Sign up for Cut Loose Butterflies here. Thank you Michele for sharing your delightful quilt!
